Chapter Three: Valentine Baby- Baby 3

Plenty of people would've been thrilled to find vocal legend Mary Soran on their porch. I would have been one of them, but considering the circumstances, her appearance was less than welcome.

I don't get the screaming and yelling that I expect, instead I just get a nervous look and a quiet ask to come in. A bit surprised, I bring her inside.

We sit down in the living room and an uncomfortable silence fills the air. Lydia happily cooed by the dollhouse as she moved one of the dolls around.

"How'd you get my address?" I finally ask after a few moments.

"James gave it to me." she says simply in reply.

"Oh."

More silence.

"I'm sorry for intruding on you like this." Mary says suddenly. "I wanted to apologize for his behavior."

"You? Apologize? For him?"

She nods, twisted her hands in an agitated manner. "It was out of line. None of it was your fault of course."

"It's not yours either." I reply. "Why are you apologizing for him?

"He's my husband. It's my job to do these things for him when he refuses to do it himself. He's a stubborn man."

"It's not your problem." I replied.

"It is."

"No, it's-"

"Anyway..." Mary says, cutting me off. "James doesn't want anything to do with the baby. Granted, he doesn't care much about our kids either, so it's hardly a surprise." Her face instantly flushes. "Forget I said that." she murmurs as she gets up.

"Where are you going?"

"That's all that needs to be said." she says. "I'm sorry for all of this, I really am."

"wait." I say and dash to the counter. I grab a pen from the table and write my number down on a piece of paper towel and hand it to her. "Call me if you need anything."

She doesn't react other than looking at the paper, then at me. She nods a bit and turns around to walk out the door.

There's unease in my stomach. Mary's clearly not happy and they way she talks about her husband makes it clear that something is going on behind the scenes. I have no proof though and I've already meddled enough in their marriage. I just have to hope that Mary grows a backbone.

Lydia and William age up quite cute. William sleeps pretty heavy through the night, which is a blessing. Lydia has been begging for a computer the minute she aged up, but there's hardly any room in the house to put it with all the toys and furniture. The house in fine now, but it's hardly going to be an ideal home when more kids come along.

Lydia seems to take to the trampoline quite well, thank goodness. She doesn't do much more than the basic jumping, but it's nice to see that she's not going to mope about the lack of internet. She spends the entire day alone, just bouncing up and down.

Dinner is Goopy Carbonara, a dish that holds up to it's name well. It sticks to the spoon when I'm stirring and getting it out of the pan and into the plate is a nightmare. When the thing finally makes it on the table, it goes turn out to be quite good, although it stuck to the forks.

The next morning, I throw on a random T-Shirt before realizing what it was. I took at my reflection and smile slightly before it's replaced by a sad look.

The T-Shirt was from a god awful pop band that I couldn't even remember the name of. I had begged Ruby to take me to their concert when I heard they were playing in Sunset Valley and Ruby took me there with little protest, The shirt, which was way too big when we bought it, now fit a bit snug.

Idly, I wondered what she would have thought if she had seen me now, mother of two and more on the way eventually. She she have scolded me? Congratulated me? I would never know.

I slammed my fist on the drawer, tears suddenly filling my eyes.

"Why did she have to run off?" I whispered. "Why did she leave me behind?"

Ruby was the closest thing I had to a mother. She was always there, right behind me. Then suddenly, I get the phone call from Aqua and my entire life came crashing down. Now she was gone and there was nothing I could do about it.

William starts screaming in the other room, which brings me back from reality. I hastily wipe my eyes and head to the nursery, grateful for his screaming for the first, if not only, time ever.

The sink decides to break just as Lydia's about to leave for her first day of school, but I'm only able to give her a hasty goodbye before I have to rush in to prevent the sink from flooding the kitchen. She doesn't seem that thrilled and I can't blame her. School's hardly fun and she's going to be out of her element with so many people around.

Potty training William is a breeze, but cleaning the rest of the house isn't. It's a mess. The puddles from the sink aren't mopped up, the toilet is looking like a science experiment gone wrong, and the shower is simply put, a mess. Cleaning takes me right through the next few hours and I'm not even halfway done with Lydia comes home.

There's a couple messages on my phone when I check it later that evening. One's from Skye and two more are from Paisley, but there's a couple other messages from some challenge fathers. In honor of Valentine's Day, I schedule an appointment with the red skinned, Cu Pid. He claims it's his real name, but who on Earth would name their kid Cu?

Lydia, as usual, spends majority of the evening alone, quietly doing her homework or playing in the backyard. She evens chooses to eat dinner alone and she's finished before I even get to the refrigerator for my dinner. She does say hello as she walks by. When I suggest that she plays with her brother, she complies without a word of complaint, but hardly looks happy about the idea. It's beginning to worry me, her lack of socialization. She doesn't seem unhappy though, just preferring solitude.

Cu is a Sim with a skin color so bright, it's almost blinding. He doesn't seem too impressed by the house and doesn't hesitate to insult it over three times before he leaves. I'm pretty irritated, but I decide to keep my mouth shut to avoid more drama.

We're running low on groceries, so William and I head out to get some food for cooking dinner. The trip takes a lot longer than expected and I end up rushing out with an overflowing basket to try and make it home before Lydia does. I barely manage and the bus is pulling up when the taxi finally arrives at our house. Lydia doesn't question where I've been, she just smiles and goes inside.

I'm able to enjoy my dinner about halfway through before the first pangs of nausea set in. I groan and shove another bite in my mouth, despite my lack of appetite. Lydia and William are playing with the dollhouse and pay no attention to me when I dart into the bathroom to throw up the meal I had just eaten.

Cake is for breakfast after a bout of vomit. As I eat, I think about the day's events, which are few. William is almost finished with walking and after that, it's just relaxation. It sounds tempting, but two days of doing nothing are going to drive me crazy. So I scoop up William and we head out to the library.

William doesn't take too much interest in the books at first, but some coaxing works and soon, he's too interested in the adventures of Jimmy Stone to pay any attention to anything else. I read to him softly, holding him close, while he looks at the pictures and listens to my words. It a nice way to spend the day and the only downside is me having to constantly rush to the bathroom.

I spend the majority of the next day painting, my bump steadily growing larger as the day progresses. William happily plays with his toys as I paint away the day with a few less horrible paintings to show my progress.

The sink decides to break again after dinner, which is the last thing I need in my pregnant state. It's either that or dish out 50 bucks for a repairman, so I get out the wrench and get to work, water spraying in my face. Right after that, the toilet decides to clog. I groan in frustration, putting it on the mental checklist for tomorrow.

I go into labor the next morning while I was trying to unclog the toilet. I gasp in surprise more than pain as the contractions begin. I'm starting to get the hang of home births and nobody can watch William, so I waddle to the nursery to give birth to a beautiful baby girl.
